Instructions/Setup:
This fun and dynamic warm-up drill focuses on improving ball control, agility, and defensive awareness. The drill encourages attackers to keep possession of the ball while also developing the ability to quickly react and transition into defense.
Coaching Notes:
• Ball Control: Players will start with the ball at their feet or in one hand, depending on the variation used. Attackers should focus on maintaining tight ball control, using quick footwork or hand movements to evade the "catcher."
• Catcher’s Role: The "catcher" is tasked with trying to win possession of the ball. This can be done by using body positioning, quick feet, or arms (if the ball is in hand) to disrupt the attacker’s control and knock the ball out of the grid.
• Switching Roles: If the catcher successfully wins possession, the player who lost the ball must immediately switch roles and become the new defender. This transition should be quick, keeping the energy high and the drill competitive.
• Encourage Movement: Attackers should focus on using quick changes of direction, fakes, and agility to keep the ball away from the catcher. Off-the-ball movement is important in creating space and maintaining possession.
• Winning the Game: The game continues until only one player remains with the ball. The last player standing can choose the next "catcher," making it a fun and competitive activity that keeps players engaged.
