15x25
Instructions/Setup:
This practice takes place in a 15 by 25-yard area and focuses on developing set and spin passing combinations. Players will practice quick, sharp movements to receive passes, combining with teammates using set and spin techniques. The exercise emphasizes passing accuracy, weight, and one-touch passing to ensure the ball moves fluidly around the grid.
Players must focus on their positioning and movement, ensuring they run at a 45-degree angle out of the square to receive the next pass. The session aims to enhance both technical passing ability and effective movement off the ball, making it ideal for improving combination play.
Coaching Notes:
• Focus on passing accuracy and weight – Ensure players are precise with their passing, paying attention to the weight of their passes, especially in tight areas. The ball should be played to allow the receiver to continue the combination smoothly.
• Sharp movement inside to receive – Encourage players to make quick, explosive movements to move inside the square and receive the ball. They should be aware of their position relative to the passer.
• One-touch passing where possible – Encourage players to use one touch when passing the ball, particularly in tight spaces, to maintain the speed and flow of the drill.
• Run out the square at a 45-degree angle – After receiving the ball, players should run out of the square at a 45-degree angle to create space and open up for the next pass, facilitating quicker transitions.
• Get comfortable passing with both feet – Emphasize the importance of using both feet when passing and receiving the ball. Players should work on being comfortable with both feet to improve overall passing ability.
• Communicate when passing and receiving – Encourage players to verbally communicate with their teammates to ensure they are aware of the play and their options, particularly when executing quick passing combinations.
Progression 1: Add a Defender
Introduce a passive defender to pressure the players. The defender will try to intercept passes, forcing the attackers to focus on accuracy and decision-making while under pressure.
Focus: Improve passing accuracy, awareness, and decision-making under pressure.
Progression 2: Introduce a Second Defender
Add a second defender to make the practice more challenging. This will require players to make quicker decisions, use better positioning, and pass with greater precision to avoid the defenders.
Focus: Enhance quick decision-making, passing accuracy, and spatial awareness when facing defensive pressure.
