Instructions/Setup:

In this drill, players are tasked with creating attacks through the space occupied by the attacking midfielder. The practice starts with a 3v3 setup centrally, with two bounce players stationed along either end line. These bounce players must be utilized to progress the ball and facilitate movement forward into attacking positions.

To score a point, teams must successfully dribble through one of the two sets of poles positioned directly ahead of them. The bounce players provide support and help move the ball into advanced areas, ensuring teams use width and creativity to break through the defense.

Coaching Notes:

• Utilizing the Bounce Players: The bounce players should always be available as an outlet, helping to switch play and create new angles for attack. Encourage players to look for them when the central area is congested, using quick passes to reset and break the defensive shape.

• Movement Off the Ball: Players in possession should make dynamic off-the-ball runs to create space for their teammates. Focus on encouraging the attacking midfielders to recognize when to move into pockets of space and when to stretch the defense.

• Decision-Making in the Final Third: When approaching the goal or pole sets, players should decide whether to shoot, pass, or dribble based on the defensive pressure. Encourage attackers to be composed and clinical with their choices in front of goal.

• Defensive Shape and Pressing: The defending players must remain compact and organized in the central area while tracking runners from the attacking side. Emphasize the importance of closing down space quickly and preventing the ball from reaching the bounce players.

Progression 1: Add a Time Limit:

Introduce a time limit for each attacking phase, where teams must attempt to score within a set period (e.g., 30 seconds). This progression forces teams to move quickly and execute faster decisions in both attack and defense.

Focus: Increases the tempo of play, encouraging players to think and act faster while maintaining their composure.

Progression 2: Increase Pressure with Extra Defenders:

Add an extra defender to the central area to make the game 4v3 for the defending team. This will create more pressure on the attacking side and force them to find quicker, more effective ways to break through the midfield.

Focus: Develops attacking players' ability to break down organized defenses and improves their technical execution under pressure.
