Week *7 4v2 Rondo

Instructions/Setup:

In this 4v2 Rondo, the players work in groups of six in an 8-yard square. There is one player in the possession team on each side of the square. They are positioned on the outsides but must still play within the area.

The four outside players aim to keep possession of the ball and are only allowed to use one touch. Success comes from quick passing, good angles, and breaking through pressure to move the ball to a free player. The two inside players (yellow bibs) work together to press, close the angles for the potential passing lines, and win the ball.

Coaching Notes:

• Encourage quick, precise passing from the outside players to maintain possession and shift the defenders out of position.

• Ensure the outside players are constantly moving to offer support and change the passing angles.

• Stress the importance of teamwork for the two defenders, working together to close down the passing options and pressure the ball carrier.

• Keep track of the number of passes completed to maintain competitive intensity and ensure focus.

Progression 1: Allow Two Touches for the Possession Team

Allow the possession team to use two touches instead of one to increase the complexity of the practice. This will encourage more technical development and control under pressure.

Focus: Improve passing accuracy and decision-making under pressure with additional touches.

Progression 2: Add Another Defender

Introduce an additional defender to make the rondo 4v3, increasing the challenge for the possession team. This forces the players to be even quicker with their passes and more creative in finding space.

Focus: Decision-making in tighter spaces and improving the quality of passes to maintain possession.
