Instructions/Setup:

This pre-season practice takes place in a 20 by 20-yard area and focuses on players' agility and passing in preparation for the upcoming season. Set up a circuit using poles, rings, cones, mannequins, hurdles, and a ladder, arranged in a way that requires players to navigate through the circuit while performing quick one-two touch combinations with the ball.

Start with players dribbling through the poles and cones to improve their agility. Once they reach the mannequin, they perform a one-two touch pass with a teammate, before continuing through the hurdles and ladder, focusing on quick footwork and agility.

The circuit should include various drills such as:

Navigating through the agility ladder with quick footwork.

Dribbling and performing one-two touch passes with teammates at specific points.

Using the hurdles to practice quick direction changes and bursts of speed.

The goal is to improve both technical passing and agility, with players performing the circuit as quickly as possible while maintaining proper technique.

Coaching Notes:

• Quick passing combinations – Emphasize the importance of quick, accurate passing in one-two touch combinations. Players should focus on using the inside of the foot for accurate passes and moving quickly to support their teammate.

• Agility and footwork – Players should concentrate on their foot speed and agility through the ladder and cones, ensuring they use short, quick steps to maintain control and stay balanced.

• Body posture – Encourage players to keep their body low and balanced while navigating the circuit. Good posture will help them maintain control when making quick turns or changes of direction.

• Communication – Players should communicate with each other while performing the one-two touch combinations. Effective communication ensures a smoother flow and quicker transitions during the drill.

Progression 1: Add Defenders

Introduce a defender or two into the circuit to apply pressure on the attacking players. The defenders will look to intercept passes or challenge the players, forcing them to perform the one-two touch combinations under pressure.

Focus: Improve players' ability to maintain composure and execute one-two touch passes under pressure, mimicking game situations.

Progression 2: Increase Speed and Complexity

Increase the speed of the circuit and add more complex movements, such as incorporating more one-two touch passes or changing the direction of play. Players should aim to complete the circuit faster while maintaining technical precision.

Focus: Enhance players' ability to combine quick passing with fast footwork and agility, helping them to become more effective in fast-paced game scenarios.
