Instructions/Setup:

This double-striker passing sequence is designed to develop the combination play and movement between two strikers. The focus is on creating effective link-up play to break down the defensive line. The two strikers are encouraged to work in opposition to each other, using specific combinations to pull defenders out of position and create scoring opportunities.

Through a series of passes, the strikers should look to make dynamic movements, constantly rotating roles and playing off each other to confuse the defending team. The key is for the strikers to time their runs and passes well, allowing for fluid and unpredictable attacking play.

Coaching Notes:

• Opposite Movements: The two strikers should move in opposite directions during combination play. This makes it harder for defenders to track their runs and creates space for both players to receive the ball.

• Timing of Runs: Proper timing is essential for the strikers to link up effectively. One striker should make a deep run, pulling the defenders with them, while the other should check into space to receive the ball and reverse the attack.

• Quick Combination Play: The focus is on using quick passing combinations (1-2s, lay-offs) between the two strikers. The ball should be passed quickly to avoid being closed down by defenders, and strikers should always look to play in one or two touches when possible.

• Breaking the Defensive Line: The ultimate goal of the practice is to break the defensive line and create space for a shot on goal. This can be achieved by using feints, sharp movements, and effective passing to disorganize the defense.

• Flexibility in Roles: The strikers should constantly rotate positions during the drill. One striker may start as the deep player, and the other as the closer-to-goal player. By rotating their roles, they keep the defenders guessing and create new opportunities for the team.

Progression 1: Add Defenders:

Introduce one or two defenders into the drill to apply pressure. This will force the strikers to work even harder to break the defensive line, using more realistic movements and combinations to escape pressure.

Focus: Enhancing decision-making under pressure, improving the timing of passes, and creating better opportunities in 1v1 situations against defenders.
