Week 17 433 Passing Combinations

Instructions/Setup:

This technical passing practice takes place in a 30 by 30-yard area and focuses on developing quick passing combinations within the 4-3-3 formation. Players will move the ball through the midfield and attack using a series of quick passes, including 1-2 combinations, diagonal passes, and quick switches. The practice is set up with four players in the defensive line, three in midfield, and three forwards, ensuring that all players understand their roles in a 4-3-3 formation and are able to make quick, precise passes under pressure.

Coaching Notes:

• Passing accuracy – Focus on sharp, accurate passes, particularly when playing through midfield and into the final third. Precision is key for maintaining possession.

• Quick movement – Encourage players to move quickly to create passing angles and offer support. Midfielders should be proactive in receiving passes and distributing the ball quickly.

• Spacing – Ensure players maintain the correct distances between each other, allowing for quick transitions and options for receiving the ball.

• Composure under pressure – Encourage players to stay calm under defensive pressure, making quick decisions and maintaining possession.

Progression 1: Add Pressure from Defenders

Introduce defenders who apply pressure to the players in possession, forcing quicker, more accurate passes and improving decision-making under pressure.

Focus: Enhance the players' ability to execute quick combinations while being challenged by defensive pressure.

Progression 2: Increase the Width of the Play

Encourage players to use the full width of the pitch when playing the ball, focusing on wide passes and quick switches of play to stretch the defense.

Focus: Improve the ability to move the ball quickly across the pitch and create space by using width effectively.
