yards
15x20
Instructions/Setup:
This practice takes place in a 15 by 20-yard area and focuses on developing players' movement and body shape to receive the ball in central areas. Players work on positioning themselves effectively to receive passes and quickly switch the play to the opposite side. The focus is on ensuring the players are in the correct body shape to receive and then execute an accurate pass to switch the ball across the field.
Coaching Notes:
• Body shape – Players should focus on positioning their body correctly to receive the ball in a way that allows them to easily switch the play, keeping their vision open to both sides of the field.
• Movement off the ball – Encourage players to make intelligent runs to create space for the pass and to be able to receive the ball in the most effective area.
• First touch – Emphasize the importance of a clean first touch that allows the player to quickly turn and execute the switch pass.
• Quick decision-making – Players should be encouraged to make quick decisions on whether to switch the play or retain possession, depending on the situation.
Progression 1: Add Pressure
Introduce a defender to put pressure on the player receiving the ball. This will help simulate game situations where players must control and pass under pressure.
Focus: Improve the ability to receive and switch quickly under defensive pressure.
Progression 2: Increase Speed
Encourage faster tempo by reducing the time players have to switch the play. This will help improve the speed of their decision-making and execution.
Focus: Enhance the players' speed of thought and action in switching the play efficiently.
