Instructions/Setup:
This simple technical practice takes place in a 20-yard area. Players work on passing the ball to each other while constantly moving to receive. The objective is to focus on quick, accurate passes and making dynamic movements to create space for receiving the ball. Players should maintain constant movement to offer passing options and receive the ball in an ideal position to continue play.
Coaching Notes:
• Passing accuracy – Emphasize clean, precise passes to ensure the ball reaches the intended teammate without being intercepted or mishandled.
• Movement off the ball – Players should always be moving to create passing angles and space. Focus on sharp, purposeful runs to receive the ball.
• First touch – Encourage players to control the ball with their first touch, ensuring it’s placed in a way that sets up their next move or pass.
• Timing and decision-making – Players need to time their runs and passes effectively to keep the flow of the drill consistent and maintain possession.
Progression 1: Add Pressure
Introduce a passive defender to lightly pressure the receiving player after each pass. This forces players to make quicker decisions and pass more accurately under pressure.
Focus: Improve passing and receiving under pressure, enhancing decision-making in dynamic situations.
Progression 2: Increase the Passing Speed
Reduce the time players have to make a pass after receiving the ball. This encourages faster movement and decision-making.
Focus: Increase the speed of passing and movement, helping players improve their reaction times and overall tempo.
