Instructions/Setup:
This technical passing practice focuses on improving short, sharp passing combinations between three players. Set up in a 15 by 20-yard area using cones to mark out two wide stations and a central area. Players rotate between the stations, working in groups of three to execute quick passing sequences. The central player acts as the link, receiving and playing one-touch passes with the outside players. Emphasis is placed on movement, timing, and quality of pass.
Coaching Notes:
• Sharp passing – Encourage players to use crisp, accurate passes with proper weight and direction to keep the drill flowing.
• Quick feet – Players should stay light on their toes and ready to adjust their body shape for clean first touches and quick releases.
• Movement to support – Focus on players timing their movements to arrive in the right position to receive or support the next pass.
• Body shape – Encourage players to open their body when receiving the ball, allowing for quicker transitions into the next action.
Progression 1: One-Touch Passing Only
Players must now complete the sequence using only one touch, increasing the technical demand and decision-making speed.
Focus: Improve passing precision and first-touch quality under increased pressure.
Progression 2: Add Passive Defender in Middle
Introduce a passive defender in the central zone to increase awareness and force better positioning and timing of passes.
Focus: Enhance spatial awareness and the ability to play around defensive pressure using clean combinations.
