Instructions/Setup:

This technical practice focuses on developing short, sharp one-touch passing combinations to maintain possession and break down defensive lines. The setup involves three players working together to execute quick one-touch passes, with each player performing one of three roles in the sequence. The goal is to build confidence in the fundamentals of quick passing, enabling players to find gaps in the opposition's defense and keep the ball moving fluidly. There are two progressions to the practice, which add more movement and finishing, further developing the players' ability to execute under pressure and within game scenarios.

Coaching Notes:

• One-Touch Passing – Emphasize the importance of using one touch to move the ball quickly. Players should focus on accuracy and precision, delivering passes that are easy for the receiver to control.

• Movement off the Ball – Encourage players to move to create passing angles and give support to the ball carrier. Quick and intelligent movement is key to creating space and maintaining possession.

• Pass Timing – Timing of the passes is critical in this practice. Players should aim to deliver the ball at the right moment to ensure the recipient is ready to make the next pass or move.

• Positioning – Ensure players understand their roles in the sequence and how they can position themselves to create passing lanes and options for their teammates.

Progression 1: Add Movement

Introduce more dynamic movement for the players to work around. For example, have one player make a supporting run to receive the ball in different positions. This encourages players to combine quickly while moving in and out of space.

Focus: Develop quick passing in motion and movement to support the ball carrier.

Progression 2: Add Finishing

Once players are comfortable with the passing combinations, introduce a finishing element at the end of the drill. After completing the passing sequence, the player receiving the final ball will take a shot on goal or deliver a cross for a teammate to finish.

Focus: Build on the passing combinations and incorporate a finishing aspect to complete the attacking sequence.
