Instructions/Setup:

This technical passing practice focuses on improving combination play, rotational movement, and the importance of creating triangles in a game. Players work together to form triangles in different parts of the field, emphasizing passing, movement, and understanding of positioning. The practice highlights the value of maintaining a triangular shape, which allows for quick and efficient ball circulation while providing multiple options for the player in possession. This exercise helps players develop spatial awareness and the ability to create and exploit passing lanes.

Coaching Notes:

• Creating Triangles – Emphasize the importance of maintaining triangular formations with teammates. Triangles offer multiple passing options, creating a more fluid and effective way to move the ball forward.

• Rotational Movement – Encourage players to rotate positions after each pass to maintain the triangle shape and provide new angles for the next pass. Movement off the ball is critical to ensuring continuous passing options.

• Passing Accuracy – Focus on sharp, accurate passes that keep the ball moving quickly and allow players to maintain control of the play.

• Spatial Awareness – Players should always be aware of their teammates’ positions, aiming to create space and open passing lanes that break down the opposition's defense.

Progression 1: Increased Pace

To increase the intensity, reduce the time allowed for each pass. This forces players to make quicker decisions and execute their passes with greater precision.

Focus: Improve the speed of play and decision-making under pressure.

Progression 2: Add Pressure

Introduce defenders to increase the difficulty. The attackers will need to maintain their triangular shape while working under pressure from the defenders, making it more game-realistic.

Focus: Enhance the ability to maintain possession and create triangles while under defensive pressure.
