Instructions/Setup:

This practice focuses on improving sprint speed and the ability to deliver accurate crosses into the attacking area for finishing. Players will engage in shuttle runs to develop endurance and speed before transitioning into crossing situations where they will aim to deliver quality balls into the box for teammates to finish.

Coaching Notes:

• Sprint Speed – Focus on players' acceleration and sprinting technique during the shuttle runs. Encourage them to explode off the mark and maintain a consistent, high-speed run throughout the drill. This helps develop endurance and speed for quick transitions in match situations.

• Crossing Accuracy – Instruct players to focus on delivering accurate, well-weighted crosses into dangerous areas in the box. Emphasize the importance of timing, ensuring the ball is delivered at the right moment to give attacking players the best chance to finish.

• Finishing Technique – Encourage attacking players to focus on composure and technique when finishing the crosses. Players should aim for accuracy over power, using calm, controlled shots to increase the chances of a successful finish.

• Movement into the Box – Encourage attacking players to time their runs well and create space in the box to receive crosses. Players should focus on making dynamic runs that allow them to get into dangerous areas where they can finish with confidence.

Progression 1: Add Defenders

Introduce passive or active defenders to challenge the attackers as they make their runs and attempt to finish. This progression will simulate real match pressure, forcing the attacking players to adjust their timing and technique under defensive pressure.

Focus: Enhance finishing under pressure and improve decision-making when facing defenders.

Progression 2: Add Crossing Variations

Vary the type of crosses, such as low driven balls, high lofted balls, and early crosses. This will require attackers to adjust their positioning and finishing technique according to the type of cross they are receiving.

Focus: Improve the ability to adjust finishing techniques based on the type of cross delivered and increase variety in attacking play.
