Instructions/Setup:

This drill focuses on developing players' ability to pass and move to receive the ball in a 20-yard area. Players will work on passing the ball to a teammate, making an immediate run to receive it back or to support the next pass. The key objective is to ensure smooth transitions between passing and receiving, with players using quick, efficient movement to create passing angles and maintain possession. The practice is designed to improve technical passing skills, movement off the ball, and awareness of space.

Coaching Notes:

• Passing Technique – Encourage players to focus on making accurate, well-weighted passes, ensuring the ball reaches the intended target without under or over-hitting. Players should use the inside of the foot for precise, short passes.

• Movement Off the Ball – Stress the importance of moving immediately after passing. Players should look to create space or angle themselves in a way that allows them to receive the ball back quickly. Proper positioning can make receiving the ball easier and more efficient.

• Quick Transitions – Emphasize fast decision-making after passing. Players should quickly assess the available options, either to receive the ball again or to support a teammate by creating space. The quicker the movement, the more dynamic and effective the practice.

• Awareness of Space – Players must constantly scan the field to identify open spaces for receiving the ball. They should be aware of the positions of teammates and defenders, adjusting their movement accordingly to make themselves available for the pass.

Progression 1: Add a Defender

Introduce a passive defender to put pressure on the passer and the receiver. The defender will force the players to make quicker, more accurate passes and improve their decision-making when under pressure.

Focus: Improve passing under pressure and create movement to receive the ball in tight spaces.

Progression 2: Increase Passing Distance

Increase the distance between players to make the passes longer, requiring players to adjust their passing technique and improve their range. This will also add complexity by requiring the receiver to control the ball from a greater distance.

Focus: Enhance passing accuracy and movement over a longer range while maintaining quick transitions.
