Instructions/Setup:
Play starts with a pass into one of the rondo grids, and two defenders must follow to create a 4v2 scenario. The team of four players must attempt to make five passes in the rondo grid. Once they complete five passes, they can shoot and score for a point. If the defending two players win possession, they aim to pass the ball back to either of the other two defenders located on the poles for a point. If the defenders win possession but the ball goes out of the grid, it's still considered a successful action, but no point is awarded.
Coaching Notes:
• Passing Accuracy & Quick Decision-Making – Emphasize the importance of accurate, quick passes in the rondo. Players should be constantly scanning for passing options and move the ball quickly to avoid being trapped by defenders.
• Defensive Pressing – Defenders should work together to apply pressure, cutting off passing lanes and forcing mistakes. They need to stay compact and anticipate the direction of play.
• Movement off the Ball – Players should focus on their off-the-ball movement in the rondo. Encourage them to make sharp, deliberate movements to create space for themselves and their teammates.
• Transition to Attack – Once the 5 passes are completed, the team must quickly transition to a finishing phase. Encourage players to remain calm and composed when they receive the ball for the shot, focusing on precision and technique.
Progression 1: Increase the Number of Passes
Increase the number of passes required before shooting to make the rondo more challenging. Players must be even more precise and quick in their passing under pressure.
Focus: Encourage players to maintain composure and patience, even when the pressure increases, while maintaining quick passing tempo.
Progression 2: Add More Defenders
Add another defender to the grid, increasing the difficulty of maintaining possession. The attacking team must now adjust their positioning and passing speed to maintain control of the ball.
Focus: Improve passing accuracy under pressure and focus on creating space in tight situations.
