Instructions/Setup:

This 1v1 practice is a fast-paced dribbling and mastery exercise. Players compete in a 1v1 scenario, with the attacker aiming to beat the defender and play a pass to a teammate. Each successful dribble and pass earns the attacker a point. As the practice progresses, the central defender becomes more fatigued, placing greater emphasis on winning possession in the initial 1v1s. This encourages attacking players to take advantage of the defender’s fatigue as the session moves forward.

Coaching Notes:

• Deceptive Dribbling Techniques – Encourage attackers to use feints, body movements, and quick changes of direction to beat the defender. The quicker the attacker can execute these moves, the more successful they'll be in getting past the defender.

• Attacking Pace & Timing – Players should focus on timing their runs and dribbles effectively to exploit the defender’s weaknesses. Emphasize the importance of a quick first touch to get past the defender early.

• Defensive Positioning & Recovery – Defenders must focus on positioning themselves properly to stop the attacker’s progress. They should also work on their recovery speed to stay in the play, especially as fatigue sets in.

• Quick Decision Making – Both attackers and defenders must make split-second decisions. Attackers should focus on creating space for their teammates once they have passed the ball, while defenders should make quick decisions on when to commit to a tackle.

Progression 1: Introduce Time Limits

Limit the time for each 1v1 battle (e.g., 10 seconds per attempt). This will force the attacker to make quicker decisions and the defender to react more rapidly.

Focus: Encourage rapid decision-making and movement, both for attackers and defenders.

Progression 2: Add Multiple Defenders

Introduce more defenders in the same space, requiring attackers to beat multiple opponents. This will challenge players to maintain control under pressure and enhance their decision-making in tight situations.

Focus: Improve ball control and dribbling under pressure while refining decision-making in crowded spaces.
