Instructions/Setup:
This is an unopposed finishing practice that transitions into an opposed 1v1. The first attacker must dribble at speed towards the goal and complete their finish. Meanwhile, a second attacker dribbles through a set of poles positioned horizontally along the edge of the box. After the second attacker completes the dribble through the poles, they attack the goal, and the first attacker must transition into a defensive position for a 1v1 scenario to defend the goal.
Coaching Notes:
• Unopposed Dribbling and Finishing – The first attacker should focus on dribbling at speed, controlling the ball effectively while preparing to finish under pressure. The aim is to develop control and accuracy in a dynamic situation.
• Transitioning to Defense – Once the first attacker completes their finish, they must immediately transition into a defensive role, setting up for the 1v1. The focus should be on quick decision-making and using positioning to force the second attacker wide or into a less dangerous angle.
• Timing and Acceleration – Both attackers need to focus on their timing. The second attacker must accelerate through the poles quickly, while the first attacker must move swiftly from attack to defense without losing focus.
• Defending the 1v1 – The first attacker should use proper 1v1 defending techniques, staying low, watching the ball, and forcing the attacker into a less threatening position to make it harder for them to score.
Progression 1: Add Pressure to the Dribbling Phase
Introduce a defender to pressure the first attacker during their dribbling and finishing phase. This forces the first attacker to deal with pressure before transitioning to defense.
Focus: Improve the attacking player’s ability to deal with pressure and finish under tight circumstances.
Progression 2: Increase Defensive Challenge
Introduce a second defender to assist in the 1v1 defending phase, making it a 2v1 scenario. This forces the attacking player to be more creative in their movements and decision-making when attacking the goal.
Focus: Improve attacking player’s ability to recognize and exploit defensive overloads.
