Week 45 2 Way Finishing

Instructions/Setup:

In this 2-way finishing practice, 2 attackers will dribble balls vertically on the grid before making a forward pass. After making the forward pass, they must turn and circle back around the mannequin on the same side of the grid in which they started, to receive the opposite ball for an unopposed finish.

Coaching Notes:

• Dribbling with Purpose – The attackers should focus on maintaining control of the ball while dribbling towards the pass zone. Encourage them to use quick, sharp touches to accelerate and approach the forward pass area with purpose.

• Pass Timing – The forward pass should be timed to meet the other player’s run. Both players must communicate to ensure that their passes are accurate and well-timed for the receiving player to have an easy opportunity to finish.

• Turning Quickly – After making the pass, attackers should quickly pivot and circle around the mannequin to get back into position to receive the ball for the next shot. Encourage efficient and fast movements to ensure they can get back in time for the finish.

• Finishing Technique – The attackers should focus on finishing with composure and accuracy when they receive the pass for the shot. They must keep their heads up, focus on the target, and avoid rushing the finish.

Progression 1: Add Defenders

Introduce a defender or two to add pressure as the attackers go to receive the ball for the finish. This will simulate real-game conditions where attackers must finish under pressure.

Focus: Finishing under pressure and improving composure when there are defenders present.

Progression 2: Limited Touches

Limit the attackers to only 1 or 2 touches when receiving the ball to encourage quick, decisive finishing and quick transitions.

Focus: Improving speed of play and reducing hesitation when finishing.
