Instructions/Setup:
This technical passing warm-up encourages players to focus on 1-touch combinations, specifically set passes and line-breaking forward passes. The practice involves two balls working simultaneously, with players required to follow their pass to maintain the flow of the drill. Players should work on quick, precise passing and movement to ensure the ball is always progressing forward. The aim is to improve both passing accuracy and the ability to play quickly in tight spaces, setting up the team for more dynamic possession play.
Coaching Notes:
• 1-Touch Passing – Players should focus on making clean, accurate 1-touch passes to ensure the ball moves efficiently and quickly. Stress the importance of soft touches to maintain ball control.
• Breaking Lines with Passes – Emphasize the importance of playing forward passes that break defensive lines, whether through the midfield or direct into attacking areas. This helps the team progress the ball quickly.
• Movement After the Pass – After each pass, players must follow their ball, providing support and positioning themselves for the next pass. This maintains fluidity and sharpens players' ability to move into new spaces.
• Awareness and Speed – Encourage players to scan the field before receiving the ball, enabling them to make quicker decisions and execute passes under time pressure, improving overall game tempo.
Progression 1: Add Defensive Pressure
Introduce passive defensive pressure, with defenders applying light pressure on the players receiving the ball.
Focus: This progression simulates game-like conditions, where players need to make quick decisions while under pressure.
Progression 2: Increase Passing Distance
Increase the distance between players to encourage longer passes while maintaining 1-touch combinations.
Focus: This challenges players to maintain passing accuracy and pace over greater distances, helping them improve long-range passing and timing.
