Instructions/Setup:
This practice is split into 2 zones. In the first zone, the attacking team will play a 2v1 and must attempt to progress the ball to the 3 forward players. If successful, the attacking 3 will play out a 3v3 attack in the second zone. If the defending team wins the ball in either of the 2 zones, they can counter-attack into one of the 2 mini goals.
Coaching Notes:
• Zone 1 – Progressing the Ball
The attacking team should focus on quick, accurate passing to break down the defending 1v1 and progress the ball forward. The player receiving the ball should always look to make the most of the space and create options for the ball carrier by making intelligent runs into advanced positions.
• Zone 2 – 3v3 Attack
Once the ball has been successfully progressed into the 3 attacking players, they must now play out a 3v3 attack. The attacking players should focus on quick combinations, using the numerical advantage to overload the defenders and create goal-scoring opportunities. Movement off the ball is key for creating space and options for the ball carrier.
• Defensive Transition
If the defenders win possession in either zone, they should immediately look to transition and attack into one of the 2 mini goals. The defending players should be alert and prepared to exploit the situation, focusing on quick ball recovery and transitioning into the attacking phase as quickly as possible.
Progression 1: Add a Time Limit
Introduce a time limit for the attacking team to progress the ball and score in the 3v3. This encourages quick decision-making and high-intensity play.
Focus: This progression emphasizes urgency and fast-paced attacking combinations.
Progression 2: Rotate Attacking Roles
After each rep, rotate the attacking players between the 2v1 and 3v3 phases. This ensures that every player gets an opportunity to both attack and defend in different scenarios.
Focus: This progression builds versatility in players and helps them develop both attacking and defensive skills.
