Instructions/Setup:
The practice begins with a 2v2 duel in a central zone, where both teams compete for possession and aim to combine quickly. The objective is to play into a designated end zone once a clean pass or dribble breaks the line. Positioned inside each end zone is a supporting attacker, creating a 2v1 situation once the ball transitions out of the middle.
Once in the end zone, the two attackers must work together to outplay the lone defender and score into one of two mini goals. The central players are not allowed to recover, ensuring a fast-paced transition and a numerical advantage for the attacking side.
Coaching Notes:
• Quick Combinations: Central players should look to create short, sharp passing sequences with limited touches to break lines and exploit space.
• Movement to Receive: Encourage attackers to constantly shift positions within the central zone, creating passing lanes and confusing defenders.
• Composure in Overload: In the 2v1 scenario, attackers must stay calm, draw the defender, and use unselfish play to create clear scoring chances.
• Defensive Decision-Making: The lone defender in the end zone should delay and angle their positioning to force low-quality shots or passes.
Progression 1: Add a Time Limit for Scoring
Once the ball enters the end zone, attackers have 6 seconds to get a shot off.
Focus: Increases urgency, encourages faster combinations, and mimics real game tempo under pressure.
Progression 2: Alternate Entry Rules
Teams can only enter the end zone through a set condition — e.g., three passes or a one-touch wall pass — before progressing.
Focus: Forces greater awareness and intentional build-up, developing structured play over chaotic transitions.
