Week 74 Build & Break Lines

yards
1/3 Pitch
Instructions/Setup:
In this unopposed build-up practice, play starts with a pass between two centre backs (CBs). One CB then plays a forward pass to the central defensive midfielder (CDM), who quickly passes the ball back to the opposite CB that has moved slightly higher up the pitch. That CB then plays a vertical pass into a mini goal, simulating a short and controlled build-up pattern between the CBs and CDM.
Coaching Notes:
• Body Position and Awareness – Encourage players to always receive with an open body shape to improve vision and passing options.
• Timing and Movement – The CB moving higher must time their movement perfectly to receive under minimal pressure and create passing angles.
• Passing Precision – Focus on accurate, weighted passes to maintain possession and enable smooth progression through the lines.
• Patience and Composure – Players should stay calm during the sequence to replicate realistic short build-up play under pressure.
Progression 1: Passive Defensive Pressure
Introduce a passive defender applying light pressure on the CDM or CBs, forcing quicker decision-making and sharper passing accuracy.
Focus:
Develops composure under mild pressure and improves quick ball circulation through midfield.
