1/3 Pitch
Instructions/Setup:
This 1-to-1 technical practice is designed to improve a fullback’s decision-making, first touch, and passing execution in wide areas. The fullback begins each rep by taking a positive touch through a gate positioned in the wide zone to simulate receiving on the move. From there, they must scan and choose between two passing options: one mini goal positioned down the line (replicating a winger) and another located more centrally (replicating a number 9 dropping in). The goal is to play accurate, well-weighted passes that match the visual trigger.
Coaching Notes:
• Controlled First Touch Through the Gate – Use the inside of the foot to guide the ball smoothly through the gate with controlled weight and direction, preparing for the next action.
• Head Up to Scan Before Passing – Lift your head immediately after the gate to assess which option is best, reacting to coach cues or visual triggers under minimal time.
• Match Pass Type to Target – Use a driven pass down the line or a guided pass inside based on the angle, distance, and target zone for realism and precision.
• Body Position on Release – Open up the body when playing wide and rotate hips for inside passes, maintaining balance to strike cleanly and consistently.
