1/3 Pitch
Instructions/Setup:
This 1-to-1 technical practice is designed for centre-backs to work on two key defensive and distribution actions. In the first phase, the centre-back must deal with a long aerial ball by positioning themselves early and clearing effectively. In the second phase, they receive a ground pass under light pressure and must take a positive touch before playing a diagonal, line-breaking pass into one of two mini goals placed beyond an imaginary midfield line.
Coaching Notes:
• Judge the Flight Early – Read the height and direction of the aerial ball quickly to position yourself in the best zone to win it cleanly under pressure.
• High-Point the Header – Attack the ball at its highest point, using your arms for balance and leverage to dominate aerially and clear with distance and control.
• Clean First Touch After Recovery – After regaining position, take a composed first touch to set yourself up for a forward pass and shift body weight into the strike.
• Pass with Purpose and Weight – Play a sharp, diagonal line-breaking pass into the mini goal, focusing on body shape, timing, and weight to replicate in-game realism.
