Instructions/Setup:

Play starts with one of the players on the end lines playing a pass into the center. Teams are playing 2v2 centrally, with the goal of progressing the ball from end line to end line. The attacking team earns points by successfully passing the ball from one end line to the other while maintaining possession against the defending team. The defending team aims to regain possession and prevent the ball from reaching the opposite end line.

Coaching Notes:

• Positional Awareness – Encourage players to maintain good spacing and positional awareness while in possession. They should use the width of the area to stretch the defenders and create more passing options, making it easier to progress the ball forward.

• Quick Decision-Making – Players should focus on making quick decisions when receiving the ball. They should assess whether to dribble, pass, or hold possession based on the positioning of teammates and defenders, using fast ball circulation to break down defensive pressure.

• Defensive Pressure and Transition – Defenders should work on pressuring the ball carrier quickly while covering passing lanes. Once possession is regained, they must transition quickly to exploit the attacking end line and score points for their team.

• Communication – Strong verbal and non-verbal communication between teammates is vital. Players should talk to each other to create passing lanes, provide support for the ball carrier, and ensure they are prepared to transition when possession changes.

Progression 1: Add a Third Defender

Add a third defender in the middle to increase the defensive pressure. This will force the attacking team to be more creative with their passes and work harder to create space.

Focus:

Enhances creativity in possession and forces quick passing under defensive pressure.

Progression 2: Limit Touches

Limit the number of touches a player can take (e.g., 2 or 3 touches). This will increase the tempo of the game and encourage players to think faster and move the ball with greater precision.

Focus:

Improves passing speed, decision-making, and reduces unnecessary holding of the ball.
