Instructions/Setup:

This is a high-intensity possession and transition game involving 8 players split into 4 teams of 2. The setup consists of two adjacent square grids. Two teams operate in the wide grids (one per side), one team positions on the outside acting as neutral link players, and one team defends across both grids.

The objective for the 3 teams in possession is to circulate the ball from one side to the other using the neutral players and wide grids while evading the defending team’s pressure. If the defending pair win possession, they immediately look to score in either of the two mini-goals positioned back-to-back in the central channel between the grids. A successful goal allows them to swap roles with the team they dispossessed.

Coaching Notes:

• Defensive Communication: The defending team must communicate effectively to press as a unit and cut off passing lanes between grids.

• Switching Tempo: Encourage quick switches across the grids to disorganize the defenders and find space on the opposite side.

• Neutral Link Play: The neutral team must stay active and provide passing angles at all times, enabling smooth transitions between grids.

• Ball Security: Teams in possession should focus on keeping the ball with minimal touches and clean, purposeful passes.

• Immediate Transition: If possession is lost or won, players should transition quickly—either to attack the goal or reorganize defensively.

Progression 1: Add a Touch Limit:

Limit players in possession to two touches per sequence. This increases the difficulty and forces quicker decisions and sharper technical execution.

Focus: Encourages faster play and sharper ball control while promoting quick decision-making under pressure.

Progression 2: Add a Time Limit to Score:

Once the defenders win possession, they must score within 5 seconds. This simulates a fast counterattack under real match conditions.

Focus: Improves speed of thought and execution during transition moments, helping players react instinctively in attacking situations.
