Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 20x30

  • The drill starts with a pass into a central player positioned at the top of the grid. The central player must receive the ball on the correct angle (e.g., receiving on the half-turn) before playing a forward pass into the mini goal.

As soon as the central player takes their first touch, an attacker (starting at the bottom of the grid) begins running towards the second mini goal to receive the pass. The central player must then transition quickly after completing their pass to attempt to recover and stop the attacker from scoring in the mini goal.

  • • Receiving on the Correct Angle: Ensure the central player receives the ball with the correct body position, enabling them to easily play a forward pass. Encourage players to always scan before receiving to identify potential passing lanes.

    • Timing of the Forward Pass: The player receiving the ball should quickly recognize the right moment to play a forward pass into the mini goal. Timing and weight of the pass are crucial for enabling the attacker to get a clean shot on goal.

    • Attacker's Timing & Movement: The attacker should time their run perfectly to meet the forward pass and finish under minimal pressure. The attacker must focus on keeping the run straight and explosive.

    • Defensive Transition: After making the forward pass, the central player must transition quickly into a defensive position to prevent the attacker from scoring in the mini goal. The focus is on recovering and applying defensive pressure in a timely manner.

  • Add Extra Attacker:

Introduce an additional attacker (e.g., 2 attackers) making runs toward the mini goal, creating a 2v1 situation against the recovering defender.

Focus: Improves decision-making and defensive awareness when outnumbered, while also encouraging attackers to exploit overloads for better chances on goal.
