Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 4 | Pitch size: X

  • In this warm-up drill, players must sprint towards a central station and stay on their toes while waiting for the coach to call either yellow or blue. On the coach’s call, players must react quickly and sprint around the called-out colour (either a mannequin or pole) before sprinting to the end.

  • • Quick Reactions: Encourage players to stay focused and react as quickly as possible when the coach calls the colour, promoting agility and sharp decision-making.

    • Staying on Toes: Players should maintain a ready, athletic position, staying on their toes to ensure they can accelerate quickly in any direction.

    • Controlled Sprinting: Players should focus on sprinting with control, ensuring they can stop and change direction quickly without losing balance or speed.

    • Anticipation: Encourage players to anticipate the coach’s call and be mentally prepared to react instantly.

  • Add Multiple Colour Calls:

Instead of calling only one colour, the coach can call two or three colours in sequence, and players must react accordingly to each call.

Focus: This progression challenges players to stay alert and develop quicker reaction times, adding a layer of complexity to the drill.

  • Add Competitive Element:

Make the drill competitive by timing how fast players can complete the sequence or by having them race against one another to the end.

Focus: This progression increases intensity and adds an element of competition, helping to improve both speed and motivation during warm-ups.
