25x35
Instructions/Setup:
This technical pattern of play takes place in a 25 by 35-yard area and focuses on playing out from the back. The practice works on developing the team's ability to play out from the defensive third and transition the ball effectively through midfield.
Coaching Notes:
• Passing accuracy – Focus on short, accurate passes when playing out from the back, ensuring players have good control and precision.
• Composure under pressure – Encourage players to stay calm and make quick decisions when under pressure from the opposition.
• Movement and support – Players should constantly move to offer passing options, and full-backs should use the width of the pitch.
• Decision-making – Emphasize choosing the right pass at the right time, whether switching play or playing direct passes when the opportunity arises.
Progression 1: Add Pressure from Opponents
Introduce one or two defenders to apply pressure on the team playing out from the back. This will simulate game-like scenarios and challenge the defenders to maintain composure.
Focus: Improve the ability to play out from the back under pressure, emphasizing calm decision-making and quick ball circulation.
Progression 2: Limit Touches
Limit the number of touches each player can take before passing the ball. This encourages quick, one-touch play and speeds up the transition.
Focus: Enhance the speed of play, forcing players to think and move quickly to break down defensive lines.
