Instructions/Setup:
This reaction-based practice begins with two players inside a circle — one in possession and one as the chaser. The possession player must dribble around the circle in any direction, evading the pressing defender for as long as possible using changes of pace and direction.
On the coach’s whistle, the possession player can attempt to break free and play forward into either of the two mini goals outside the circle. This drill promotes close control, awareness under pressure, and decision-making in transition moments.
Coaching Notes:
• Change of Direction: Encourage sharp turns, stop-start movements, and the use of both feet to keep the defender off balance and unpredictable.
• Awareness: Players must constantly scan the defender’s body position and anticipate the best moment to break free toward the mini goals.
• Whistle Reaction: The whistle signals a moment of transition — challenge players to react instantly and find the right pass under pressure.
• Body Position: Help players understand how to shield the ball effectively, using their body to create space while dribbling or when preparing to pass.
