Instructions/Setup:

This drill begins with a 4v3 attacking scenario in the first zone, where the attacking team aims to progress the ball into the opposition's penalty box. If successful, the attack moves into a 2v1 situation, with only two of the four attackers moving into the penalty area to finish the play.

If the defending team wins possession, they transition quickly and attempt to score in either of the two mini-goals, focusing on a fast counterattack. This drill encourages quick transitions, decision-making under pressure, and precise finishing.

Coaching Notes:

• 4v3 Build-Up: The attacking team should focus on maintaining possession and creating overloads to break down the defense. They should move the ball quickly and look for openings to progress into the final third.

• 2v1 Finishing: In the final phase, the attackers should aim to exploit the 2v1 advantage, using quick passes and intelligent movement to break through the defenders and finish with accuracy. The defenders must focus on closing down options and preventing a clean shot.

• Defensive Recovery: The defending team must transition quickly after losing possession, immediately focusing on blocking shooting lanes and applying pressure to the attackers. They should communicate effectively to cover the mini-goals and restore balance in defense.

• Decision-Making Under Pressure: Attackers need to decide whether to pass or shoot in the 2v1 scenario, while defenders must decide whether to press or cover. Encourage players to read the situation and act quickly.

Progression 1: Add Time Limit to Attack:

Set a time limit for the attacking team to progress the ball and complete the 2v1 finishing phase. This forces attackers to move quickly and make decisions under time pressure, while also encouraging defenders to press more aggressively.

Progression 2: Add Extra Defenders to Final Phase:

Introduce an additional defender in the penalty area for the 2v1 scenario, making it a 2v2 for the finish. This forces the attackers to be more creative and precise with their movements, while defenders must communicate and work together to stop the shot.

Focus: Increases the difficulty for attackers and enhances defensive organization in the final third.

Added a target striker for more realism. The simplicity of the activity is very good, but added a target striker for more realism - various starts from dribble in, play target player, defensive clear + defensive line stepping to press...
