Instructions/Setup:

This passing pattern involves two balls moving in a "Figure 8" pattern within the grid. The focus is on players receiving the ball on their back foot with an open body shape to ensure they can quickly move the ball in the right direction. The practice encourages quick, sharp passes, with each player moving the ball with two touches.

Players must follow their pass after each sequence to rotate to the next position, ensuring everyone gets involved in both passing and receiving. The pattern should flow continuously, keeping players engaged and improving their ability to quickly transition from receiving to passing.

Coaching Notes:

• Focus on receiving with the back foot – Encourage players to receive the ball on their back foot to maintain a smooth, quick transition into their next pass, keeping the ball moving efficiently.

• Open body shape – Players should ensure their body shape is open when receiving the ball, allowing them to immediately face their next passing option and move the ball quickly.

• Passing with two touches – Emphasize the importance of controlling the ball with the first touch and passing with the second to maintain the rhythm of the drill and keep the flow moving.

• Rotation after every pass – Players should follow their pass and rotate to the next position, ensuring that each player gets equal opportunities to practice both passing and receiving while maintaining the flow of the drill.

Progression 1: Increase Passing Speed

Increase the speed at which players pass the ball while keeping the same number of touches (two). This progression will test the players' ability to maintain accuracy and control while passing faster.

Focus: Improve passing speed without sacrificing accuracy or control.

Progression 2: Add a Defender

Introduce a passive defender in the middle of the grid who can put pressure on players by attempting to intercept passes. This will force players to increase their awareness and improve their decision-making under pressure.

Focus: Improve decision-making, passing accuracy, and awareness under pressure.
