Instructions/Setup:

This practice focuses on playing one and two-touch combinations around the corner, emphasizing midfielders and strikers' roles in the game. Set up a 20 by 30-yard area with two small goals at either end. Divide players into groups of 3 or 4, with one player acting as a defender. The attacking players must work together to execute one-touch passes and play quick combinations to break through the defense. Focus on developing quick thinking and the timing of the passes, as well as positioning to receive and play around the corner, simulating a real match scenario where players must move the ball quickly to create attacking opportunities.

Coaching Notes:

• One and Two-Touch Passing – Encourage players to play with one and two touches to keep the play quick and fluid. This helps develop their ability to make decisions under pressure and execute fast passes with accuracy.

• Timing and Movement – Emphasize the importance of timing when making runs and passing. Players should move quickly into space and time their runs to receive the ball at the right moment, allowing for a smooth continuation of the combination play.

• Angle of Support – Players should position themselves at the correct angle to receive the ball and play it forward or around the corner. Good body positioning is key to receiving the ball and executing an effective pass.

• Awareness and Communication – Players must communicate and be aware of their teammates’ positions. This allows them to make better decisions and play more effectively, especially when trying to break through a defensive block.

Progression 1: Add a Defender

Introduce a defender into the practice, challenging the attacking players to execute their combinations under defensive pressure. This progression forces players to make quicker decisions and improve their passing accuracy when under pressure.

Focus: Improve passing accuracy, decision-making, and composure when under defensive pressure.

Progression 2: Play in Tight Spaces

Reduce the space in which the players can operate. This forces them to use quicker combinations, precise passing, and effective movement to maintain possession and create space in tighter areas.

Focus: Develop players' ability to play in tight spaces, execute quick combinations, and maintain control of the ball under pressure.
