This positional rondo simulates the movement principles of a 4-3-3 formation, using a large rectangle divided into four connected grids. Within these grids, the possession team engages in a 4v2 rondo in whichever grid the ball is currently located.
To maintain shape and encourage intelligent movement, certain players are required to shift horizontally or vertically so that each active grid always has four possession players. This models how players must support the ball across different zones in a real match while staying connected to team structure.
As the ball transitions from one grid to another, players must slide accordingly to maintain numerical superiority in the live area. Defenders (2 per rondo) apply pressure in the active grid.
• Shape Awareness: Emphasize maintaining the team’s shape while adjusting positioning based on the ball’s location.
• Communication: Players must constantly scan and talk to each other to coordinate which players shift and who holds in neighboring zones.
• Speed of Play: Focus on quick, accurate passes and smart movement to unbalance the defenders and keep the rondo flowing.
• Positional Discipline: Reinforce roles and responsibilities within the 4-3-3 structure, ensuring players understand when to shift and when to hold their zone.
Limit Touches in the Active Grid:
Impose a 2-touch maximum for the possession players in the active rondo grid.
