Instructions/Setup:
This drill is a 1v1 possession and dribbling challenge, incorporating 4 neutral bounce players positioned around the outside of a square grid.
While only two central players compete directly in a 1v1 duel, the player in possession effectively has support from four bounce players, turning it into a 5v1 situation when using the bounce options.
Bounce players are restricted to one-touch passes only, and can only be used to retain or redirect possession—not to bypass the opponent entirely. The focus remains on maintaining control, drawing out the defender, and creating space to attack.
The goal for either player is to dribble through one of their opponent’s two gates (4 total gates—2 per player—positioned directly opposite each other on the grid) to score a point.
Coaching Notes:
• Awareness & Angle Use: Players should constantly scan to recognize when and where to use bounce players to escape pressure.
• 1v1 Decision-Making: Encourage creativity and deception—players should combine with bounce passes to manipulate the defender before bursting toward a gate.
• Bounce Player Role: Stress sharp, clean one-touch passing. They should offer angled support, not just act as static walls.
Progression 1: Add Touch Limit for Central Players:
Limit the central player in possession to 3 touches (or even 2) before they must attempt to either use a bounce pass or attack a gate.
Focus: Increases tempo, improves ball control under pressure, and forces quicker decisions.
