Instructions/Setup:
The drill begins with two attackers sprinting into the main rondo grid, where they face a 2v4 situation against four defenders. Their task is to win possession from the defenders.
Once the two attackers win possession, they immediately sprint into two separate smaller grids (left and right). In these grids, the attackers are tasked with dispossessing a single ball carrier (one defender) before returning to the main rondo grid.
Coaching Notes:
• Pressure & Timing: Attackers must work in unison to apply pressure, with each player aiming to isolate a defender and win possession. Quick and precise pressing is key to forcing mistakes from the defenders.
• Transition to Smaller Grids: Once possession is gained, the attackers need to transition quickly into the smaller grids. Speed and sharp direction changes are critical for putting the defenders under pressure.
Progression 1: Add Extra Defenders:
Increase the number of defenders in the smaller grids (e.g., 2 defenders per grid), making it more challenging for the attackers to regain possession.
Focus: Encourages attackers to work together in tight spaces and find creative ways to break down a stronger defense.
Progression 2: Time-Based Challenge:
Introduce a time limit (e.g., 15 seconds) for attackers to regain possession and return to the main rondo grid. If they don’t win possession in time, they must restart the drill.
Focus: Adds intensity and urgency, encouraging attackers to be quick and efficient in regaining possession and maintaining control under pressure.
