Antwerp Finishing The Attack Centrally
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 30x40
This finishing the attack centrally drill focuses on developing players’ ability to break through defensive lines and finish efficiently in tight central areas. The practice is set up in a compact 30 by 40-yard zone, divided into two main phases. Initially, two attackers work together to play the ball forward past two defensive players positioned on a fixed line acting as blockers or screeners. Once past this line, the ball is delivered into a second zone where three attackers face two defenders in a 3v2 attacking situation, encouraging quick decision-making and sharp finishing.
If the blockers intercept or win the ball during the first phase, they immediately transition to attack against two defenders in a 2v2 scenario aiming to score in two mini goals. This drill challenges players to combine effective combination play, sharp attacking movement, and strong defensive reactions while maintaining high intensity throughout both attacking and defensive phases.
Encourage Precise, Timed Passing to Break Defensive Lines – The initial two attackers must focus on well-weighted, accurate passes to bypass the blockers effectively.
• Promote Sharp, Coordinated Movement From Attacking Players – Off-the-ball runs should create passing lanes and overloads in the 3v2 attacking phase for better scoring opportunities.
• Stress Defensive Alertness and Quick Transitions – Defenders must stay alert to intercept passes and immediately transition to attack, maintaining intensity and focus.
• Reinforce Composed, Accurate Finishing Under Pressure – Attacking players should remain calm to execute quality shots in tight scenarios with limited space.
Add a Passive Third Defender in the Final Attacking Zone
Introduce a passive defender to increase pressure on the 3v2 attackers, encouraging quicker decision-making and improved spatial awareness.
Focus:
Develops sharper attacking creativity, improved defensive communication, and better composure in tight central spaces.
Reduce Allowed Touches for Attackers in Both Phases
Limit attackers to two touches per possession phase to increase tempo, forcing faster ball control and decision-making under pressure.
Focus:
Improves technical precision, quicker thinking, and dynamic attacking combinations in high-pressure environments.
