Instructions/Setup:

Play begins with a 6v5 scenario in the central area, where one team is tasked with maintaining possession while the other looks to win the ball. If the team of 5 wins possession, the outside players become live, increasing the game to an 11v6, with the team of 5 combining with the 6 outside players to form a larger attacking team.

The 6 outside players are positioned to replicate a traditional formation, with players positioned as a goalkeeper, right back, left back, right winger, left winger, and center forward. The players in the central area are expected to rotate positions to retain and progress possession effectively, simulating real game scenarios.

Coaching Notes:

• Rotation & Positional Awareness: Players in the central area should rotate their positions regularly to maintain fluidity in possession. Encourage them to be aware of the spacing between them and their teammates to support quick passing and create options for progression.

• Outside Player Use: The outside players must be used strategically to progress the ball, offering wide options and switching the play. Players should focus on switching the ball quickly and utilizing the space provided by the wide players.

• Defensive Pressure: The team of 6 should focus on applying effective pressure to win the ball. Encourage defenders to stay compact while trying to limit the options of the attacking team, closing down players who are in possession.

• Possession Retention: Encourage quick passing, movement off the ball, and staying composed under pressure to maintain possession. Players must be ready to exploit the space provided by the outside players and create opportunities in the final third.

Progression 1: Limit Attacking Touches:

Limit the number of touches for the attacking players (e.g., no more than two touches per player) to increase the tempo and force quicker decision-making.

Focus: Increases the speed of play and improves decision-making under pressure, encouraging the players to play with greater tempo and efficiency.
