Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 2 | Pitch size: 10x10

  • In this ball mastery and awareness drill, two players work within or around a square grid—one designated as the runner and the other as the chaser. The runner starts with the ball and attempts to evade the chaser, who must try to tag them while both players remain on the move.

The runner can dribble freely in any direction around the square, while the chaser works to apply constant pressure. Both players are encouraged to scan frequently and react quickly to changes in movement. This creates a dynamic game-like situation that challenges both awareness and technical ball control under pressure.

  • • Scanning & Awareness: Reinforce the importance of players scanning their surroundings constantly to anticipate changes in the chaser’s position.

    • Body Orientation: Encourage players to stay side-on and low to the ground to maximize balance and agility during changes of direction.

    • Ball Protection: The runner should use their body to shield the ball and utilize quick touches to change direction under pressure.

    • Chaser Footwork: The chaser should focus on quick, balanced footwork and closing down angles to cut off the runner’s escape routes.

    • Decision Making: Praise players for using feints, changes of pace, and misdirection to outsmart their opponent.

  • Time Limit Challenge:

Introduce a 10-second time limit for the runner to evade the chaser. If the chaser hasn't tagged the runner in that time, the runner scores a point.

Focus: Increases intensity and urgency for both players, encouraging sharper movement and quicker decision-making.
