Instructions/Setup:
This unopposed passing and receiving drill is designed to develop turning under pressure, awareness, and quick decision-making. Four players are positioned on the outside of a square grid, with one player working inside the central box. Two of the outside players start with a ball.
Play begins with one ball being passed into the central player, who must check their shoulder, receive, turn, and play to another outside player. They then follow their pass and switch roles. The outside player who made the initial pass then enters the central box to repeat the process with the second ball, which has been played in from the opposite side.
This creates a continuous flow, with two balls constantly in motion and players rotating in and out of the central box.
Coaching Notes:
• Scanning: Players must check their shoulder before receiving to create space and make better decisions.
• Body Shape: Encourage players to receive on the half-turn to open up their options and keep the play moving fluidly.
• Pass Timing & Weight: Emphasize well-timed, crisp passes that allow for quick turns and smooth transitions.
• Communication: Players must constantly communicate to ensure clarity in movement and role switching.
• Tempo: Keep intensity high to simulate match speed and demand constant alertness.
Progression 1: One-Touch Requirement:
Require players to play their pass out of the grid using one touch after receiving, if the body position and pass allow.
Focus: Enhances quick decision-making, movement preparation, and first-touch quality.
