Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 50x40

  • Play starts with 2 unopposed finishes into 2 separate goals, positioned on a mini pitch resembling two 18-yard boxes with goals opposite each other. The 2 wide players combine before delivering a cross into the box for the attacker to finish.

After completing the unopposed finishing phase, the coach serves the ball to one of the attackers. The attacker then plays out a 1v1 with a defender, followed by completing a second 1v1 with a second ball.

  • • Finishing Technique: Focus on composure and accuracy during the unopposed finishing phase. Attackers should aim for placement rather than power when finishing.

    • Crossing: Encourage wide players to deliver precise, weighted crosses into the box. The delivery should cater to the attacking player's run and positioning.

    • 1v1 Decision Making: The attacker must quickly decide whether to dribble, perform a skill move, or shoot early. Encourage a calm but decisive approach.

    • Defender Positioning: Defenders should focus on closing down the angle and preventing the attacker from cutting inside or shooting at goal.

    • Timing of Runs: Attackers should time their runs well, arriving at the right moment to meet the cross or make an effective move in the 1v1 scenario.

  • Add a Second Attacker:

Introduce a second defender in the 1v1 phase, creating a 2v1 scenario for the attacker. This forces the attacker to make quicker decisions and enhances their ability to beat multiple defenders.

Focus: Improves decision-making and ability to maintain control under pressure.

  • Add a Time Challenge:

Add a time challenge for the wide players to deliver a set number of accurate crosses within a given time frame. This increases the intensity and challenges both the quality and speed of the crosses.

Focus: Enhances the decision-making speed of the wide players and increases the tempo of the attacking phase.
