Belgrade Finishing the Attack

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 9 | Pitch size: 50x30
This practice begins with an unopposed pass played into a player positioned in the wide area, who will deliver a cross into the box. The centre forward and the inside forward (who didn’t play the initial pass) will attack the box in a 2v2 scenario against the defenders, aiming to score. The defending team consists of two central defenders and a recovering defensive midfielder, whose role is to prevent cutbacks to the inside forward and add an extra layer of realism to the scenario by challenging the attacking team with additional defensive pressure.
• Timing of Runs – The attacking players should time their runs into the box to meet the cross with momentum, ensuring they are in the right position to finish on the delivery.
• Crossing Technique – The wide player must focus on delivering accurate and varied crosses, ranging from driven balls to floated deliveries, depending on the attacking players’ positioning.
• Movement off the Ball – The centre forward and inside forward should communicate and move dynamically, creating angles and making intelligent runs to create space for themselves and the ball carrier.
• Defensive Awareness – Defenders must track the attackers’ runs while positioning themselves to prevent cutbacks or early shots. The recovering defensive midfielder must act as a shield, disrupting the offensive flow.
Restrict Passes Before Cross
Limit the number of touches the wide player can take before crossing (e.g., one or two touches).
Focus: Increases the speed of the attack and forces the wide player to make quicker decisions, simulating match conditions.
Add an Extra Attacker
Introduce a third attacker into the box, creating a 3v2 attacking scenario.
Focus: Challenges the defenders to maintain shape and communication, while providing more attacking options for the forwards to exploit.
