Instructions/Setup:
This drill involves a head-to-head (H2H) competition where teams take turns attacking and defending through headers. After an attacking player attempts to score with a header, they immediately transition to become the goalkeeper (GK) and try to stop the opposition from scoring their header.
The transition between attacking and goalkeeping is continuous, and teams are rewarded with 1 point for every goal they score. This drill adds a competitive edge while also serving as an engaging heading warm-up.
Coaching Notes:
• Heading Technique: Emphasize proper heading form—players should focus on timing, accuracy, and direction to increase their chances of scoring.
• Transition Speed: Encourage quick transitions between attack and defense, with players being alert and ready to react as soon as they switch roles.
• Goalkeeper Positioning: When in goal, players must focus on positioning themselves effectively, staying on their toes, and reacting quickly to the incoming header.
• Decision Making: Attackers must assess the goalkeeper's positioning and decide whether to go for a powerful header or a more controlled, precise attempt.
Progression 1: Add a Timed Challenge:
Set a time limit for each phase of the drill (e.g., 30 seconds per round). The team with the most goals at the end of the time limit wins.
Focus: This progression encourages a faster tempo, increases intensity, and simulates the pressure of a game situation where speed and focus are crucial.
