Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 20x20
This passing practice focuses on a pass and press scenario. Players are positioned at four points: North, South, East, and West, around a central area. The practice starts with one player making a forward pass to a teammate, after which they immediately press the receiving player, simulating game-like pressure.
This drill is ideal as a warm-up, focusing on receiving the ball and playing under pressure while also improving the players' ability to react quickly to the ball and the opponent's movements.
• Pass with Purpose: Players should focus on making accurate and purposeful passes to the receiving player, ensuring the ball is played with the correct weight and direction.
• Pressing Technique: Emphasize the importance of pressing immediately after passing. The pressing player should close down the space quickly, staying on their toes and being ready to react to the ball.
• Receiving Under Pressure: Encourage the receiving player to check their shoulder before receiving the ball, scanning the area to assess the pressure they are under. They should aim to control the ball and quickly make a decision, either passing or dribbling away from the defender.
• Communication: Players should communicate verbally and non-verbally with their teammates, helping to organize the press and coordinate movements.
Increase the Pressing Intensity:
Allow the pressing players to close down the receiving player more aggressively, aiming to win the ball back in a shorter amount of time. This progression adds a level of intensity to simulate higher-pressure situations.
Focus: This progression helps players refine their pressing skills, improving their ability to win the ball back quickly and apply relentless pressure in match situations.
