Instructions/Setup:

This practice focuses on attacking under overload conditions and finishing under pressure. The field is set up in a 20-yard grid, split down the middle into two zones. In each zone, the attacking team has a 2v1 advantage. The goal for the attackers is to move the ball from the defensive zone into the attacking zone while maintaining possession, using their overload to create space and opportunities.

Once the ball reaches the attacking zone, the two attackers must work together in sync to break down the lone defender and attempt to score. If either of the defending players wins possession, they are allowed to transition quickly and attack the main goal.

Coaching Notes:

• Overload Utilization: Emphasize how the attackers can use the overload to stretch the defense and create passing lanes. The players must communicate well and move off the ball to create options for the player with possession.

• Sync and Timing: Attackers should time their movements to work in sync, making sure one player is drawing defenders while the other looks to exploit space or receive the ball for a shot on goal.

• Defender Transition: Defenders should focus on winning the ball and then immediately transitioning to attack. The drill simulates real-game pressure where a loss of possession leads to an instant change in roles, requiring quick reactions.

• Finishing Under Pressure: The attacking players must remain composed in front of goal, making quick decisions while under the pressure of a lone defender.

Progression 1: Add a Second Defender:

Introduce a second defender into the attacking zone once the ball is played in. This adds more pressure to the attackers and challenges them to make quicker decisions and execute combination plays to break down the defense.

Focus: This progression improves attacking combinations, quick decision-making, and finishing under increased defensive pressure.
