Berlin Breaking Lines into 2v2
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: Half Pitch
This practice starts with 2 defenders dribbling towards the edge of the box before making a line-breaking pass into a mini goal. As soon as the defenders make the pass, 2 attacking players located centrally must attack quickly and attempt to score while the defending 2 are unbalanced and transitioning from the wide to central spaces. The defending 2 must react quickly, as if they've lost possession after their initial pass, and attempt to protect the central spaces and defend against the 2 attackers.
• Timing of the Line-Breaking Pass – The defenders must make the pass at the right moment to break the lines and set up the transition to attack. The timing is crucial for catching the defending team off guard before they can recover their defensive shape.
• Quick Transition to Attack – The 2 attackers must react immediately to the line-breaking pass and move into the central space to exploit the defensive disorganization. Emphasize fast, decisive movement to create an attacking overload and maximize scoring opportunities.
• Defending During Transition – Once the defenders make their pass and are unbalanced, they must recover quickly to protect the central spaces. Encourage defenders to focus on closing down the attackers, cutting off passing lanes, and preventing shots on goal.
• Reaction to Loss of Possession – If the attacking team regains possession in the central areas, the defending team should quickly transition into a defensive shape and be ready to counter the threat from the attackers. Encourage quick reactions and communication during this moment of transition.
Add a Goalkeeper
Introduce a goalkeeper to make the practice more realistic and improve the attacking players' finishing under pressure. This will also help the defending players adjust their positioning and decision-making when protecting the goal.
Focus: Finishing under pressure and improving transition play from wide to central areas.
Limit Passing Options for Defenders
Limit the number of passes the defenders can make before transitioning. This forces them to make quicker decisions under pressure and will create a more intense transition for both the defending and attacking players.
Focus: Quick decision-making, maintaining defensive balance, and exploiting attacking overloads.
