Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 30x36
This finishing drill begins with a 3v1 situation in the first zone. The attacking player must progress the ball from the first zone to the second zone using two outer bounce players, creating the overload. Once the attacker reaches the second zone, they can combine with a teammate already positioned there to create a 2v1 and attempt to score. The goal is to finish quickly while under pressure from defenders.
• Quick Decision-Making: Encourage the attacking player to make quick decisions when using the outer bounce players to progress the ball.
• Effective Use of Overload: The player with the ball in the first zone should use the overload effectively, drawing defenders and playing the ball to their teammate for a shooting opportunity.
• Timing of Runs: The teammate in the second zone should focus on timing their run to create a clear 2v1 with the attacker and take the shot quickly.
• Awareness in the Final Third: Stress the importance of being aware of defensive pressure and the best angle for a shot once the 2v1 situation is created.
Add Defender Pressure in First Zone:
Increase the pressure on the attacker by adding an extra defender, turning the first zone into a 3v2 situation.
Focus: This progression encourages the attacker to make faster decisions and use the overload more effectively.
Limit Attack Time:
Set a time limit for the attacker to progress the ball into the second zone (e.g., 10 seconds). If they fail to do so, the defending team wins possession.
Focus: Promotes quick transitions and sharp decision-making in attack.
