Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 4 | Pitch size: 20x10
Play starts with a 20-yard sprint race from the pole into the grid. The first player to arrive in the grid will receive a ball from the coach and play out a 1v1 scenario. If either of the players scores, they will be awarded 2 points. A bonus point is awarded for the reaction in transitions. Once the ball is dead, the first player to touch the pole in which both players started from will be awarded this bonus point.
• Sprint and Reaction Time – Emphasize the importance of sprinting quickly into the grid and being the first to receive the ball. Players should focus on quick acceleration and strong sprinting mechanics to gain an advantage early in the 1v1 situation.
• 1v1 Technique – During the 1v1 scenario, players should focus on maintaining good body positioning and using skill moves to beat their opponent. Encourage attackers to take defenders on with pace and creativity, while defenders should focus on staying balanced and forcing the attacker wide.
• Transitioning Quickly – Encourage players to transition quickly when the ball is dead. Both players need to be aware of the transition moment and react fast to gain the bonus point. This helps build fitness, as well as focus on quick recoveries.
• Scoring and Decision-Making – Remind players that the quicker they can finish their 1v1, the more likely they are to regain possession or score. Encourage decision-making that leads to a high percentage of goals, such as taking the shot early when the opportunity arises.
Add Multiple Defenders
Add additional defenders to the grid, requiring the attacking player to beat more than one defender. This increases the difficulty and helps develop decision-making in 1v1 situations.
Focus: Improving 1v1 finishing skills and defending under pressure.
Increase Sprint Distance
Increase the sprint distance to 30 yards to make the race more challenging. This will test the players’ endurance and acceleration over a longer distance, simulating more intense game situations.
Focus: Improving stamina, speed, and 1v1 duels in a high-intensity scenario.
