Berlin Rondo into Counter Attack
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 16 | Pitch size: Half Pitch
Play starts with a 4v2 rondo, where the 4 players in possession work to maintain the ball against 2 defenders. If the defending 2 win possession and can play a forward pass into the attacker outside the grid, they will be rewarded with a bonus point. If the defending team wins possession but the ball goes out of the grid, the coach will serve the ball into the attacker to restart the next phase.
Once the ball is passed into the attacker, the defending 2 players from the grid must break out to create an attacking overload. They will have 10 seconds to complete the attack, focusing on quick transitions. As a progression, the number of attacking players can be increased, turning the attack into a 5v4 scenario, which encourages a more dynamic and varied attacking strategy.
• Fast Transitions – Encourage defenders to quickly switch from defense to attack once they win possession. Speed is essential, so the defending players must be aware of the timing to break out and attack.
• Communication – The attacking player must communicate clearly with the defenders to ensure they understand when and where to play the ball. Quick decision-making and effective passing will help maximize the attacking potential.
• Effective Use of Overload – Once the defenders break out, they need to exploit the overload situation. Encourage quick passes, movement off the ball, and finding gaps in the defense to complete the attack.
• Progressive Attack – As the game progresses and more players are added to the attacking phase, remind players to keep composure and work as a unit. The attackers should focus on teamwork and positioning to maximize the space created by the overload.
Increase Attacking Numbers
Introduce more players into the attacking phase, creating a full defensive back 4, thus turning the game into a 5v4 attacking scenario. This progression allows for more complex decision-making and a greater emphasis on building attacks with numerical superiority.
Focus: Build awareness of positioning and use of space in overload situations.
Time Pressure on Attackers
Introduce a time limit for attackers to score once they receive the ball. This will add urgency and challenge the attackers to make quicker decisions. Focus on exploiting the overload situation and converting possession into goals within the time frame.
Focus: Speed of thought and execution in attacking phases.
