Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 15x15

  • This practice starts with a 4v2 rondo in a small grid. After every 3 successful passes, an additional defender joins the rondo, progressing to a 4v3 and possibly even a 4v4 as pressure increases. If the defending team wins possession, they aim to score in one of the four mini goals located around the grid, which are protected by two goalkeepers. If the defending team regains possession and scores, they switch roles and become the possession team.

  • • Passing Precision – Encourage quick, precise passes to maintain possession and avoid giving defenders opportunities to intercept or pressure the ball carrier.

    • Positional Awareness – Players should focus on maintaining good spacing to allow for passing options and ensure they’re always ready to support their teammates in possession.

    • Defensive Pressure – As the defenders increase in number, emphasize compactness and effective pressing. Defenders should read the attacking team’s movements and anticipate passing lanes.

    • Goalkeeper Support – The two goalkeepers must stay alert, helping protect the mini goals while coordinating with defenders to block or clear the ball when necessary.

  • Limit Number of Touches
Restrict the number of touches players in possession can take (e.g., two touches maximum).
Focus: Increases tempo and decision-making speed, simulating real-game pressure.

  • Allow Defenders to Score
Allow defending players to score in the mini goals if they win possession, giving them more incentive to press.
Focus: Adds an extra layer of intensity to the drill and motivates defenders to be more aggressive and proactive in regaining the ball.
